Hey peoples! Long time no blog post! I’m gonna try to update this more often, hopefully with every comic page, because maybe you’d like to get more than just a page and some witty commentary at the bottom of it? If not, I suppose that’s cool too, you don’t have to read ’em, but I will silently judge you if that’s the case.

Not really. You do you.

Unfortunately this post brings some not-so-cool news: I’m unfortunately gonna have to miss this week’s update, because I sort of ran out of script. I’ve been super busy with senior thesis stuff that I was just working off of what I had and haven’t had the chance to write anymore! Whoops!

Hopefully I can make up some ground by Monday, so you’ll get a double update next week? It’s also my birthday though, and who knows how that’s gonna eat into my productivity and motivation. Don’t get me wrong, I love making this comic, but everyone needs their downtime, you know? And by downtime, I means Super Smash Bros.

As with the last blog post of this type, I’ll leave you all with a music recommendation: the Electronic Super Joy OST! God do I love this soundtrack. It is all kinds of my jam, and it’s only 4 bucks! Do yourself a favor and experience this awesome music.

A Preemptive Apology

Hey everyone!

Hope you all have been enjoying the recent updates: we’re dealing with a lot of exposition stuff right now, but I assure you, we’ll get into some exciting stuff soon: this is only the prologue to what will become a grand adventure, if I do say so myself.

I’m actually making this post to regretfully inform you that I’ll probably end up missing tomorrow’s update: it’s been a really rough week for me, and this upcoming page for some reason has been giving me more trouble than I had anticipated. I’m going to be away from my compy till Saturday night for a little trip, but fingers crossed I can get the page finished on Sunday and then we’ll be back to regular updates once more.

In the meantime, if you’re looking for more art from yours truly, you can always check out my art blog which I tend to update pretty regularly, and I’ll often post sketches as well as rambly thoughts (if you want to hear that sort of thing from me) over at my Twitter.

And finally, as for something a little less self-serving, how about a song recommendation on this fine Thursday night? Specifically, The City as You Walk by Skyhill. This album has impacted my art and writing a lot in the past few months, but there’s something about this song in particular that just strikes me in a particular way. It’s hard to describe: when I first heard this song, something just clicked and fell into place for me, about who I wanted to be and what I wanted to create.

COMIC START!

Holy dang, I actually kept my deadline? Obviously hell has frozen over and the apocalypse is upon us.

I mean, Ragnarok is supposed to happen tomorrow (Feb. 22nd if you’re joining us from the FUTURE), so I guess it’s a valid conclusion? It’s been a while since we’ve had a nice apocalypse. I plan on spending it doing school work though.

On to more important matters: Dream State is a go! Unfortunately, I’m going to be juggling writing/drawing pages with a really intense course-load (making a short film!), so the comic is going to update on Fridays only (unless something awesome happens and I get a really good buffer, but we’ll see what happens with that).

With that in mind, I’m gonna try to post blog posts and things weekly along with the Friday update.

And, uh, yeah, that’s all I got! Probably going to try to spruce up the site a little bit here and there, but until next week!

All things must come to an end…

…as does this comic. Today’s update (page 51!) marks the official end of Paradigm Shift! What the heck!

Thanks to all of you who have followed this journey, and those who are just stumbling upon this site now and reading the comic through in one sitting! You all are awesome. I mean it, really and truly.

But what does that mean, you may ask? What will become of this site now that this comic is complete? Why, another comic, of course!

If you don’t recall, I’ve hinted at something called Dream State in some previous blog posts, and that’s what I’m working on now (between school work and selling my soul to 3D Animation). Dream State is a sequel to Paradigm Shift of sorts, but one’s not entirely necessary for the other.

Curious? Here’s a tiny preview of the first page! (Look at that increase in art quality, dannnng.)

I’m super excited to really get into Dream State proper. Paradigm Shift was my first wholly completed comic, and I love it, but I feel like I’ve improved a lot since then (almost two years now!), and it’s gonna be a whole new journey.

That being said, I’m going to take a bit of a break from updating the site with comics so I can work on scripting and building up a page buffer, because my school life is so hectic that I know I’ll need it. I might update the site with some concept drawings and things like that, so be on the lookout!

Right now, the tentative start date for Dream State is February 21st. I’m sure you guys won’t be dissapointed, so I hope you’ll stick around till then!

Rambling.

Bluh bluh I missed an update on Tuesday and I am deeply sorry. I keep doing that! I blame it on the pile of work that I need to complete before Thursday.

Well, really, I needed to complete most of it by the past Wednesday, and I succeeded! Which is nice. All I have left is an art history test (bluh) and animation critique (double bluh). And I promise not to miss an update next week! I WILL NOT MISS AN UPDATE EVEN IF I AM FIGHTING DRAGONS (I won’t be fighting dragons, but you know what I’m getting at here).

Anywho, we’re getting to the climax of the story now! Paradigm Shift is pretty short on its own, which is why I’m excited to expand it a little more with the “sequel” that is DREAM STATE. Maybe it’s a little silly that my first “serious” foray into putting comics online is a comic that is a) deeply self-referential and b) features a character that is pretty much an expy for myself, but eh, I really don’t care too much about that (or rather, I do, but I care more about doing what I want than what some nameless entity says I should do).

Regardless, to those who have been reading Paradigm Shift and enjoying it enough to share with others, thank you so much for everything: it really makes me immensely happy to see people like and reblog the update posts on the Paradigm Shift Tumblr, and the fact that this comic is reaching anyone is just absolutely awesome to me.

We’ll see how the story concludes in the upcoming weeks, but I can assure you that it won’t be the last of Star and The Player by any means! Until that time, keep on keepin’ on, friends and readers and vague passersby who found this website somehow.
